1. Girls Trip has an all star cast, who shine in their own light. Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish.


When Ryan (Regina Hall) is invited to speak at the annual Essence Festival, she sees it as a chance to reconnect with her college best friends Sasha, Lisa and Dina, and the girls set out on a trip to New Orleans. With the Vibrant backdrop of New Orleans and the Essence festival, we follow the ladies on the path of rediscovering their friendship as well as new self appreciation.

Seeing these four black women take centre stage, I felt I could relate to them or see my friends, sisters, aunties or mum in them.



2. What's Love Got to Do with It is a biographical film based on the life of icon Tina Turner.


The film stars Angela Bassett as Tina Turner and Laurence Fishburne as her husband Ike Turner. This electric performance should have won Ms Bassett her Oscar, the powerful story of strength and triumph will tug at your heart strings then have you dancing around your living room belting out Tina’s classics.



3. Widows is Steve McQueen's masterpiece that follows four women with nothing in common except a debt left behind by their dead husbands' criminal activities.


They decide to take fate into their own hands and conspire to forge a future on their own terms. With a captivating cast, Viola Davis, Daniel Kauuya, Cynthia Erivo, Brian Tyree Henry. The plot will have you at the edge of your seat, holding your breath.



4. For Colored Girls, directed by Tyler Perry and based on a novel by Ntozake Shange, follows a group of black women In New York, most of whom live in the same Harlem apartment building, facing personal crises, heartbreak and other challenges.


The main themes are trauma and mental health. Although at times it is too painful to keep watching, hold on and get to the end. As there literally is a sisterhood rainbow. This glowing cast will leave you reeling for more, as there are some outstanding performances.
